Brian Duba started competing when he was 14. The 50-year-old still competes in the PRCA in the Badlands Circuit. Brian was the Mid-States Rodeo Association president from 1992-1998. "My wife and I are going hard on the pro circuit. As hard as our business will let us," he said. His wife, Corenne competes in barrel racing, something she has done since she was little. "Between the boys and the business, I've slowed down," she admits. Corenne worked as a vet tech before she had their boys and then switched to selling feed. Now she works full time as a mother and in the business.
Duba's Trailer started in 1995 and has grown into the top five Platinum dealers in the nation. Adding to that the personal living quarters that they create, Duba's Trailer is home to the family. Both Brian and Corenne had full time jobs before starting the company. "We started doing this business with our own money in the Sandhills out in the middle of nowhere. No bank knew about living quarters. We would do a trailer, and dump the money back into the business and buy more product. I worked driving a truck for for 17 years and retired. We run 7 days a week, 20 hour days."
Brian built his first trailer in barn wood. He had friends in the rodeo world asking him to do theirs and the business snowballed from there. Brian has a carpentry background and he watched the first living quarters coming out in the 1990s and thought he could do better. "We started slow. It's got to be comforts of home or we won't do it." Everything except the doors are done in the shop. "We use real wood, because it's lighter," said Brian. "We use quality products – everything we do is custom built to the owner – there are no preset floor plans." Brian does all the plumbing and electrical. "We're certified – first ones to be certified in Nebraska for TRA and RVIA."
The company has built more than 400 trailers and none are the same. "We've got stalls set up in the back so our clients can drop off their horses. We've even got an arena where they can go ride while we're working on their trailer." The business moved five miles east of Chambers, Neb., on Hwy 281. The secret now is to balance work and family. "It's hard with the kids in school. You never have a spare moment. From the time we get up to bed, there's business and horses," said Corenne. "We make time – we stop and make time." Both boys are into showing horses at this point. Cauy is starting to rope, and Cole is into football. "Whatever they want to do, we'll support it," said Brian, who continues to compete which has helped his business."Rodeo has made our business as well as keeps up going. Word of mouth – we have to go to the rodeos for our business – that's our advertising. We love doing it.
